There are a variety of ways to become involved in our work, either as a pastor or lay member. In general, volunteers are needed in several areas, from the board room to the front office.
However, the policy work and community organizing is accomplished through congregation members participating on three levels:
• Sponsoring Committees
• Leadership Teams
• Representative Assemblies
Sponsoring Committees
Each church holds their own monthly sponsoring committee meetings. These meetings
are designed to raise foundation support for the project selected by the church,
to recruit additional congregations into the organization, to oversee the
hiring of staff, and to define the areas to be organized.
Leadership Teams
Participating congregations are required to form a leadership team to oversee the organizing process in their congregation. A leadership team consists of 12 members per congregation. The purpose of the leadership team is to act as the pastor's point persons for the organization. These persons interview members of their congregation to surface issues of concern.
Leadership team members are also responsible for producing their congregation to public actions of the organization. Additional responsibilities include recruiting congregational members for action committees and updating their congregation on the work of the organization.
Representative Assemblies
Each individual leadership team joins leadership teams at other congregations in forming a representative assembly. The purpose of the assembly is to plan, host, and oversee the public actions of the organization.
